NINE INCH
NAILS
Further
Down The Spiral
This remix collection could be cynically
perceived as a marketing tool to eke more sales mileage out of The Down ward
Spiral, but the actuality is that these deconstructed, souped-up and destroyed
interpretations by a bevy of experimental folks are quite engaging, pushing the
individual tracks‘ energy quotient further. The lion’s share of the eleven
mixes are the work of Coil‘s John Balance and Peter Christopherson, who leave their
patented psychotropic mark on everything, notably the chilling “Bottom“ version
of “The Downward Spiral,“ and a minute-long electro-Eurofolk take of “Eraser.“
Other guest manipulators include Rick Rubin adding some ‘70s boogie-rock
flourishes to “Piggy“; Aphex Twin buzzing, clicking and hammering away at “At
The Heart Of It All“; and even Reznor‘s own aural demolition squad.
