Nine Inch Nails
The Perfect Drug
(Promo mcd - Nothing Records)
Although we received lots of promo CD's here at the side-line
office, this is an expectation. Normally we wouldn't have mentioned that this
was a promo, but in this case it's special. First of all, this CD is widely
available in shops, but there will be another release of this single in about
one month, and it be something completely different. This CD only contains two
versions of the perfect drug, while the actual single will feature 6 remixes,
including All Jurgenson and of course these two nin versions. So don't let them
misguide you, this is not the real single of the perfect drug. This is a single
for the collectors. But enough about the CD itself, it's the music that
interests us the most, isn't it?
The perfect drug is a real complex song that clearly shows
what nin is all about. It takes a while before you see the structure true this
complex wall of sound, but before you'll now it you'll be singing along,
anticipating all the sudden changes. I especially like the piano part at the
end. Trend once again turns love into something dark en inevitable. With song
lines like "without you everything falls apart. Without you it's so much fun to
pick up the pieces". Last thing I heard, the perfect drug was 9 in the billboard
chart. But nin hasn't turned main stream. Although when you consider that he has
sold 5 million copies of the downward spiral, I guess you could call it main
stream. But I think that the main stream is just getting closer to nin, instead
of the other way round.
